Cumberbund pleats UP or DOWN?

The best man at our wedding wore my ring on his pinky finger, and my MOH wore the groom’s ring on her middle finger.  Just before the ceremony, they both removed the rings and placed them on a small silver tray to be blessed by the priest.  This meant they weren’t fumbling to get the rings off in front of everybody.  Wouldn’t it be funny if the ring got stuck on the wrong person’s finger?? Simple answer. . . . They go up.  The reason for this is that when cumberbunds are worn to the opera the gentleman can put the opera tickets in one of the tucks and not have to got fishing in his pants or tux jacket pockets.   I guess the best man could also put the wedding ring there secured by a very small safty pin for quick and easy access. Cumberbunds are "crumb catchers".  The pleats go up. Tonya May
