Platinum rings

Question:

Oops, maybe so.  I don’t recall, does he actually say at any point what metal the ring is made from?  Given the color and strength, I’d assumed Platinum, but hey, maybe it was titanium. So, I wonder, how much does titanium run? Response:

You  may want to consider getting a white gold 18k band coated with platinum.  That is what I did for my engagement ring and you cannot tell the difference!  This was recommended to us by the jeweller where we got the ring made in order to keep costs down. Good luck.

My boyfriend and I wanted to buy the platinum wedding rings and found out that platinum is more expensive in the U.S.A than Japan.  Therefore, we ordered our rings from a Japanese Jeweller.  You can buy a thin (2 or 3 mm) simple platinum band with around $150 -200.  Our rings are custom-made.  My ring is 4mm width, 1.5mm high, 6g weight and half round design ($200).  My boyfrined’s ring is 6mm width, 2mm high, 9g weight and half round design ($250).  We thought this was a good deal.

I don’t know much, other than that platinum is the most expensive metal to use for a ring, but that the price of platinum has dropped significantly during the last year — so now is probably a good time to buy.  It’s the strongest of all the precious metals, which seems appropriate for a wedding ring.  We’re going to have platinum bands custom made.  Good luck. – Marya (6/7/97)

Response:

I had my grandmother’s diamond reset in platinum (I liked the look, and its original setting was platinum).  Platinum is rare, and therefore more expensive than other settings.  It is more durable, though.  I think it shows off the natural beauty of the diamonds!   One warning:  most people will think it is either silver or white gold!
