Nice gift for helpful person?
Question:
I am in the situation where all my bridesmaids and my parents live out of town, so in planning my wedding and doing all the work, I expected to be pretty much on my own (my wedding is July 24th). A few monnth ago, as I was struggling with all the details and trying to get everything done by myself, a friend of mine who lives here offered to help out. Well, I had only met this person less than a year before, so I didn’t know her all that well initially. But, as we spent more and more time together, she ended up helping me a great deal, to the point that I don’t know what I would have done without her. She has been amazing – she is making the wedding cake, sewing my going-away outfit, she has helped me plan and organize all the last-minute details, gone shopping whenever I needed her, etc etc etc. To make a long story short, we have really become good friends now, and I would like to get a very special gift to show my appreciation for all she’s done. She is a very handy, craft-oriented person and she grew up on a farm, so she’s into "country, homey" type of things, like pottery, calico prints, country-style antiques, etc. She doesn’t wear much jewellery, so that isn’t really an option. Can anyone suggest a gift that would be suitable for such a person? I would like to give her something that will last a long time, and I’m willing to spend much more than you would for your average attendants’ gifts. Your suggestions are most welcome. I’m not sure about the gift, but I have a friend that is the same. She is a coworker I met three months ago and just got married in December. She has been a great source of support and information, as well as a good friend. She and her husband are doing our music. We are going to put them in the wedding program, only ours is a ‘here’s who’s involved, why, and public thankyou’ all in one. They’ll have nice flowers to wear, thier pictures taken, and a gift that I’m still working on. Have you thought about a nice quilt? One of the pretty ones with a pattern (like flowers, or houses) on it. I have a regular quilt that I love. A decorative one that is warm and snuggly might be nice. Lynn and Britan August 21, 1993

(like the porcelain flowers people have mentioned here). i bet if *you* made something for *her*, it would mean a great deal to her. needlepoint kits are simple and can be done quickly. embroidery is a bit more difficult but often looks prettier… you could design a little embroidered "plaque" that says exactly how much you appreciated her help, gives your wedding day and such… — — love and spice, –vyxter
