Wedding Summary II – The Day of

Dave and the fellas went golfing.  Mom, Paige (my maid of honor), my aunt and I hung out for the day.  Breakfast, followed by shopping, and then manicures at the Mirage for all four of us.  (Dave’s mom and aunt stopped by the Mirage to take photos of us getting our nails done) Paige and I then went to the swimming pool and lazed around in the sun for a few hours.  My mother and I had a ‘date’ for 3:00.  We went to get salads (our dinner reservations were for 10:00 so we needed to get something on our stomachs).  We had a nice time and I really started to feel my nerves tightening up.  At 4:00 we headed back to the hotel room to get ready for the wedding.  I was showered and made up by 5:15 and at 5:30 my dear friend, also my hairstylist, came by to do my hair and place my head piece.  Her girlfriend is a photographer, who came with her camera and black and white film and she started snapping photos right away (their wedding gift to us will be a black and white wedding photo album!)  My dress was a sleeveless, ivory, embossed, tea-length, evening gown.  I wore a shoulder-length head piece; I wore gloves from Dave’s mother.  My shoes were ivory mule slippers from Victoria’s Secret (major, major comfortable!)  LB continued to take photos during the final preparations, and then began taking photos of me with my niece, parents, etc. Dave called our room and let mom know the limo for me and my family would be in the lobby in five minutes.  We headed down and Amy and LB went to Dave’s room to mess with his hair and to take photos of he and his family.  Dave wore his tux, a white shirt, a bow tie that is over 80 years old, it was his grandfathers.  It is black with a single silver stripe through it.  He wore cufflinks and button covers that were martini glasses with little green olives on top.  Very dapper. The cufflinks and covers were my wedding gift to him.  (He gave me a wide band ring with sapphires and diamonds)  When we got to the lobby, Dave’s aunt was there to take pictures.  We went outside to wait for the limo, and my mouth was dry and my heart was pounding so fast.  It was becoming so real!  The limo arrived, and off we were down the Strip on our way to the chapel.  Our limo driver radioed in to say he ‘had the bride’ and they could send the next limo out for the groom and his family. We arrived to the chapel and I was rushed to the ‘bridal room.’  There were already about 15 people in the chapel, mostly my biological father and half-siblings and extended relatives.  The hostess of the chapel brought me my bouquet and I was so happy with the arrangement…the day before I had only seen the roses, not the final presentation.  She asked who all the flowers went to and I told her. In the meantime Amy, my lifesaver, was messing with my headpiece….my uncle had hugged me in the limo and pulled my head piece down! Yikes! But Amy fixed me right up!   I heard Dave and his family arrive and I was so excited.  The chapel photographer came in and told me what shots he would be taking.  I asked him to go light the candles at the front, since we didn’t want to light a unity candle.  He took care of it.  The minister came by and assured me he would only say what I had written in the script. Okay, it’s time to get married now! My maid of honor and Dave’s best man went down the aisle first.  Then Dave, with his mother to his left and his father to his right, walked down the aisle.  My father then walked me halfway down the aisle, and mom then joined us half way.  I looked at Dave, and he was choking back tears.  All I could think about was that I was marrying my love. The ceremony was perfect (of course I think so, I wrote it  :)  we had a quick receiving line and the photographer whisked us away for shots in the chapel in then outside.  It was nightfall by then, so I think the photos will be pretty amazing. We all pile into limos and head downtown to Fremont St.  The laser show started right when we got there and we had a blast.  We found an Elvis and Dave and I flanked him for a photo!  While my webpage is nothing but a concept I do have it published just to see the Elvis photo:  http://members.aol.com/JLfields65/wedding.html Let me tell you, walking around Vegas dressed in wedding clothes is a riot!  We had more well-wishes from folks, groups of people stopping to clap, a couple dollar bills handed to us to try our luck, etc.  It was a blast. Okay, it’s time for our reception dinner at the Top of the World restaurant at the Stratosphere, on the 104th floor.  The restaurant revolves!  The view was spectacular and the food was delicious!  We had about 30 people in attendance, so we had ordered in advance a wedding cake (sheet cake)  It was white cake with apricot filling.  It was so-so.  But fun to have a little something to make it seem like a reception.  At about 12:00 Dave and I excused ourselves and headed back to the hotel.  Upon entering our hotel room we found a beautiful fruit basket with bottled water, fresh fruit, chocolates, and an iced bottle of champagne and two flutes…compliments of my parents and my aunt and uncle.   Back to Chicago and the reception…..
