I got married at the Fearrington House in October of 1999. We only had 6 guests though (our parents and siblings), so our experience might be slightly different than the average affair.
The rate for having the wedding there is $2,000. Then you add in your h’ors douevres, meal, drinks, flowers, cake, champagne. The packages comes with a room in the Inn for one night and a breakfast the next day (which we slept through – oops). We had the ceremony in one of their beautiful gardens at 5:30pm with a rent-a-priest guy from one of the local wedding chapels. We were given 6 chairs and a strolling champagne guy as part of the package deal. Since we only had 6 guests (and therefore only 6 chairs, and only one champagne guy) we were given a break on the package rate – $1000 instead of $2000. We had appetizers served on the patio next to our garden, the full 5 course meal, drinks, champagne, flowers, cake after dinner in our own private sunroom, and all that stuff, plus throw in my dress and my husband’s suit, tips, the minister……. all for $2300. The thing I liked best about Fearrington House was that we were probably the smallest wedding they’d ever had there, but you wouldn’t know it from the way we were treated. There was a much bigger wedding going on that night, but we felt like we were the only ones there. It was a very comfortable and relaxed, yet tasteful and classy environment. The room we stayed in was really nice too. Good luck. -megan

Hello. I was the photographer last weekend at a wedding reception held at the Governor’s Club, and felt that it was a first rate facility and I have been in quite a few. It is in a lovely location and the staff are most accommodating. "My" bride had 5 bridal portaits displayed , and they provided easels for all of them. There was plenty of parking and the couple only had to go a few feet to their cottage when the reception was over. If you have any other questions, please feel free to write. I haven’t been to either of those locations, but you might want to also look into The Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill. Since I’m planning my wedding from out of state, they also mailed me an information package with area wedding vendors and other location specific info. The place was very pretty, but too formal and expensive for what we had in mind. I’m getting married outdoors at Storybook Farm and our reception will be at a private room at Spanky’s on Franklin Street. It’s going to be very informal. There’s a Yahoo Group called CarolinaBrides, which might be of help to your friend. Rhea

Fearrington House is the perfect place for a wedding (and honeymoon!) I spent a lovely weekend there with my wife and while it was quite expensive I believe it was worth every penny. Will never forget that weekend. It is most beautiful there during the summer. They are in the middle of some renovations presently but I’m sure they will be back in top shape in time for summer. > They are particularly interested in any experiences with the food > served at Governor’s Club and Fearrington House.
What kind of circles do the wedding guests run in? The food was too artsy fartsy for me but I am a meat and potatoes man. If that kind of stuff is your bag, they did use caviar and truffle oil quite frequently in their dishes as I recall if that gives you some idea of the kind of circles this establishment caters to.

I second this… Hilary and I went there for a weekend getaway last year (a much needed break from parenting, and our first real on in 2 1/2 years of it). They were setting up for a wedding while we were roaming the grounds during the afternoon, so we peeked in the barn to see the setup. It was spectacular — I wish my wedding looked *half* as nice. > They are particularly interested in any experiences with the food > served at Governor’s Club and Fearrington House.
The meal at the house certainly reflected their Five Diamond rating (the only restaurant in NC with such), but I really couldn’t say how that would compare to their catering options. But I can say that all the food that we ate during our stay (the cafe, afternoon tea, dinner & breakfast) was terrific in every instance. Best of luck, e — Raleigh, NC http://home.nc.rr.com/ejlamb

I have a friend who is getting married next summer. Currently they are looking at both Governor’s Club and Fearrington House. Would anybody who has had personal experiences with these or other recommendations, please email them to me or post them here? I will post a summary of any emails I get. They are particularly interested in any experiences with the food served at Governor’s Club and Fearrington House. Thanks.
