<snippies> My fiance’s engagement ring (and his wedding band, which we will be ordering in a few weeks) is titanium with diamonds—– http://www.ringsforever.com It’s stunning and much lighter (he wears an 11) than platinum would have been…..I can recommend Exotica’s responsiveness and quality as well… Anna L. Response:

Titanium is an extremely strong and durable metal, as well as attractive. If you want something that will last forever, it’s a good way to go… however, titanium is NOT a precious metal like gold or platinum, and thus there are monetary value considerations. Just something to think about! * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

This is true…and yet…we’re not really concerned about resale value of his engagement/wedding bands…..and they’re "precious" in that not too many people are walking around with titanium bands……they look mostly like platinum….and his engagement band actually has a carat’s worth of diamonds in it, so there’s value too….and the good part is that for the size of his ring, we only had to spend maybe 1/2 of what we would have spent on platinum.    I’m not really of the school that holds out for the "big, expensive" ring anyway—-what’s the point?     It’s not like titanium is tin or aluminium or something…… Anna L. We ordered my DF’s wedding band from titaniumarts.com.  I haven’t seen it yet- it should arrive any day now. They told us that titanium rings cannot be sized, so it is very important to be absolutely sure of what size you wear before ordering.

I haven’t heard of them before but they have a respectable website and have listed both the names and in some cases, email addresses, of satisfied customers. Check out the Better Business Bureau.  I’ve noticed they’re a company operating out of Montreal, Canada and they’ve listed their North American 1-877 service number.  If I were you, I’d call them and tell them you’re considering ordering from them but are hesitant about ordering on the internet.  Tell them you’d like to hear from people who have used them before and let them do the legwork for you.  Surely they have some clientele who would be prepared to vouch for them personally. I’m not so sure that titanium is such a terrible thing for a wedding band.  On that site, it speaks of soft and hard titanium.  Apparently there is a significant difference. My fiance and I are having celtic bands made of platinum and gold.  My e-ring is platinum and it has this nice patina around it formed from fine scratches caused by daily wear.  Since there is a groove around the radius of the ring that is inset, some of the shiny platinum still comes through on the band.  I believe you could expect the same sort of wear from titanium.  It has an innate beauty that is extremely handsome. Titanium is a metal that can not be soldered in an oxygen environment. Hence jewelers have only recently started to use it for rings. Jeremy and I were planning to have titanium rings, but I finally realized that I felt weird about purchasing my wedding band from an ex-boyfriend. ;-) > Has anyone heard about titanium wedding rings, my fiance found the below web > site and i was wondering if anyone has heard about them before > Thanks > Tara > http://www.titaniumrings.com/ > — > Tara & Barry > April 21 2001

I went to the website, and I think that it’s pretty straight forward.  Titanium is a very strong metal, much stronger than gold, and a titanium wedding ring was included in the movie "The Abyss".  They even sell an "Abyss" wedding ring on the site. * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

Response:

My understanding is that titanium rings are a bad idea in general. Because the metal is so strong, it is impossible to cut a titanium ring off of your finger.  This may not seem like a big deal, but imagine having an injury of some sort which causes your ring finger to swell up.  The normal ER procedure is to cut the ring off.  Bad news for your finger if your titanium ring won’t budge.
