question about rings
Question:
My engagement ring is marquis shaped and none of the wedding bands that I have tried on will fit up against it. I’ve tried smaller widths, but none work. A few jewelers told me that they could cut a notch in the wedding band so that the engagement ring would fit into it. But several people who have had this done says that it is a bad idea. They say that the rings will slide apart and the notch will be on the side or back of the finger. Has anyone had this done to their ring, and if so did it work properly? Any other suggestions? Thanks!
Response:
Have the two rings soldered together. Problems solved. I got my wedding band notched (quite elaborately) and soldered to my engagement ring, and it came out wonderfully. Another option is to get the setting on your engagement ring changed so that the diamond sits up higher and the band fits against the bottom part. Wear the engagment ring on your right hand and your wedding ring on the left (or vice versa, in the European style). Simple, elegant, does no damage to either ring, and, best of all, it costs nothing! –T. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . a.g.f.faq.chick gothic martha stewart ebay sales at http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/toreadorbat/

My engagement ring had to be notched slightly. It wasn’t notched on the ring, instead, they notched the bottom of one of the prongs. My diamond is round, though. They may have to notch the ring, but I suggest having the two rings soldered together, then they will stay together as you want them. I recommend everyone get their rings soldered togehter. It prevents wear on the bands, and it also prevents the annoying turning around of the thinner ring all the time. The only reason you would not want to do this is if you have a career or hobby where you would only want to wear the wedding band some of the time. Other than, that, you might as well get them soldered. My rings still look separate because they are only soldered on the bottom. From the top, there is still a little space between them. The rings look great together!! Kelli – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > My engagement ring is marquis shaped and none of the wedding bands that I > have tried on will fit up against it. Hello Taurus: I’ve been a master jeweler since 1979. Do not notch either your wedding band or engagement ring for the following reasons: 1)Your wedding band will always turn on your finger and the notch will look bad and get caught on things like sweaters, etc. 2)If an inexperienced jeweler (and many of them are)cuts a notch too deep on your engagement ring, it could affect the structural integrity of the the setting. This never works well with marquis settings anyway. I do not recommend soldering the two rings together for the following reasons: 1)There will be many occasions that you will want to wear your wedding band but should not wear your engagement ring. Ex: At the beach, skiing, at the gym, etc. I could tell you many stories of diamonds popping out of their settings during these types of activities. 2)With a marquis, the ring might be uncomfortable to wear. I recommend either wearing the wedding band on the same hand in a stacked fashion (the concept of the two rings fitting perfectly together is a concept marketed by engagement and wedding ring manufacturers), or wearing the marquis on the right hand and the wedding band on the left. If you email me, I’ll send you a URL of a site that has allot of great jewelry information, like how to care for your diamond. Good luck, Coop Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.
