That’s not *that* odd. Ok, we want our parents to assume we know what’s best for us, but if they hadn’t said all the other horrible things, I would have said the "sleep on it" was just them reassuring themselves that their son *is* making a decision he’s absolutely certain of. (Which is probably what it is now) > Granted, the money also comes with a couple of stipulations – they > want us to have the wedding at the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel > (very, very fancy, top-rate hotel, one of the best in CA – five star, > five diamond). Heh – if you don’t mind the fanciness, and *they’re* paying, the Ritz-Carlton isn’t a terrible compromise. While not to my taste, the one in Laguna Nigel really *is* gorgeous – in a lovely setting. > I’m still nervous about flying out there in September but I guess I > will get over it.
You’ll probably be nervous until you get off the plane. That’s normal (I was nervous meeting my FMIL even though I knew she already liked me:)) just keep reminding yourself that you’ll let the past go, and no matter what they say, you’ll be the better person by maintaining your dignity. Good luck! Cherise

Egads – the Ritz?! Make very, very sure that’s what you want because it will be super expensive and they can always hold that over you (that they paid for this "fancy, expensive" wedding). I think at this point, I would finance the small wedding yourselves and let them throw a reception at the Ritz to "welcome" you as a new married couple. Otherwise, good luck. kellie (who has been to the Ritz in Laguna – it’s just about the ultimate place for an outdoor wedding) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->(Recovering from hurtful future in-laws thread a couple of weeks ago) >Thanks to everyone who sent me their support and advice; I really >appreciated it and I’m sorry I took so long to get on here and post a >followup. >Despite all of the rotten things they’ve said about me in the past, my >fiance’s parents have "come around" and are not only not saying rotten >things any more, but are sending us a check to pay for most of the >(small) wedding. *faint* They’ve even gone so far as to already >purchase wedding bands for us in MA, since they have friends who are >jewellers. My cousin had her wedding at this Ritz last October. She also had an outdoor ceremony. It was a beautiful place, but it wasn’t the greatest outdoor wedding. It was SOOOOO windy and quite cold, but very very sunny. It would have been a lot better if it were warmer. No matter how nice the place is, you’re really taking your chances when having an outdoor wedding! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Egads – the Ritz?!
