California Photographer

Question:

I do not think you understand what advertising represents in the newsgroups and I would suspect you learned photography straight out of a officially endorsed Kodak phamplet.  BTW I think Kodak only wants minions to work in there best interest and peoples. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->all of you, you can just KMA and screw your group. > > Well you guys just get off my back. Bottom line, the news group (by way of its members) forbids advertising. Ann

Hmmm…  I’ll have to guess that some sort of orthopedic malady has effected your spelling ability.  Careful, somebody around here might label you as dislexic. And let’s probe your statement, fwiw.  Which part of these previous posts contained your apology? Perhaps I’m looking in the wrong place – maybe you could direct me to your "apology." > I have had enough of this.

And you, sir.  And you. In the meantime, I hope everyone can see the sort of person they’d be getting if they were dumb enough to sign a contract with a spammer. — Joe Pucillo Baltimore, Maryland  USA To reply by email, please remove the .xx from the address.

All you have to do is check the usenet archives, a good set are at http://groups.google.com  and do a search for "FAQ" in the appropriate newsgroup, or if that fails ask usually someone in a group will point it out to you or post a copy.   I’ve never used aol…but isn’t there some sort of "user’s guide" to usenet out there…when I first subscribed ages ago (94) on my reader that was the first thing that came up.  That would be useful for everyone. Additionally, it can           be obtained via e-mail from Ann Alias           http://www.netins.net/showcase/wedding/. The AW home page           should be considered a companion site to the           soc.couples.wedding home page,           http://www.wam.umd.edu/~sek/wedding.html. Both the alt.wedding           and soc.couples.wedding have a number of ‘mini-FAQs’ that           provide detailed information which supplement the aw/scw FAQs.    0.3) What is Netiquette?           A set of generally accepted rules for posting (netiquette) can           be found in the FAQs in NEWS.NEWUSERS.QUESTIONS and           NEWS.ANSWERS. It is recommended that you read these before           beginning to post to the group. Also, there is a section on the           alt.wedding home page that addresses UseNet and new users. We           strongly encourage you to read the following at least once::           + Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About UseNet           + Rules for Posting to UseNet           + Hints on Writing Style for UseNet           + Emily Postnews Answers Your Questions on Netiquette           + A Primer on How to Work With the UseNet Community           + What is UseNet?           If you have further questions about reading and posting to this           or any other group, subscribe to news.newusers.questions.           Whether yours is a technical question or a netiquette question,           the people there are the ones who can best help you out. You           can also check the FAQs in news.software.readers or ask your           local system administrator for help with your news reader (trn,           TIN, nn, etc.). This is also a good place to find help with           technical questions or netiquette guidelines.    0.4) Netiquette and Flaming           Flaming is discouraged on a.w. Arguments over ‘He said/She           said’ are not welcome here. The same holds true for those users           who instigate or perpetuate flamewars. Chronic offenders of           this policy are referred to alt.flame first, then           news.admin.net-abuse.*. Flaming occurs when two people have           differing opinions and views and one or both parties resort to           insulting, name calling, and ad hominem attacks. These           diatribes generally gather steam until it becomes a ‘flamewar.’           While other users may end up taking sides in this sort of           conflict, most users really don’t care about the brouhaha and           would prefer it stop.           People have *very* strong opinions about some wedding issues.           If you want to discuss some of these ’sensitive topics,’ do so           calmly and politely. Don’t try to change someone else’s           beliefs, or attack them personally. After all, what may be           viewed as tacky in your eyes may be viewed as a long-standing           tradition in another person’s family.           It should be noted that disagreeing with someone’s ideas or           plans does not constitute a flame. There have been many intense           discussions on alt.wedding on such topics as money dances, cash           bars, and same-sex marriages. While disagreement may be intense           in these discussions, the statements are not necessarily           flames, and should not be taken as such. Just because someone           disagrees with your opinion does not mean they are flaming you.    0.5) Copyright           This FAQ is maintained by Ann. There was no place where the rulse were posted. When I was notified about the no spam, which was not my intention, I appologized. Can anyone forgive me.  God forgives people, why can’t you. I have seen so much response to this one email than I have seen anything else.  I have had enough of this. I hope you all can just forget about it and stop responding. Do something else with your lives. Good luck to you all. Rick

In a previous article, Meghan said… > I am new to this group (and newly engaged!!) and, as a resident of California > looking for a photographer, I found the original post informative.

It may be informative, but it can also be indicative of a vendor who can’t get clients on his own, and must then post a commercial announcement to a world-wide newsgroup – one which specifically prohibits such postings. When presented with the obvious fact that he’s a spammer (by sending advertisements where they’re not wanted or allowed) he became somewhat abusive.  When further presented with the rules of this *discussion* group, he wanted to be exempted from those very rules.   Is this really the sort of person you want to sign a contract with???   My word, if your officiant tells him that he can’t use flash during your service, can you see the sort of precedent he’s set here?  Will he insult your priest or rabbi and tell him that his personality is lacking?  Will he ask the rabbi to kiss his nether regions?  Will he then stamp his little foot and leave in a fit? If you’re looking for a good photographer, who has enough word- of-mouth reference and clients who *look for him*, I would avoid using anyone who is so desperate that they need to purposefully break the rules of this group to get their names out. hth — Joe Pucillo Baltimore, Maryland  USA To reply by email, please remove the .xx from the address.

This group voted a few years ago to forbid advertising. Those who advertise in violation of this group’s rules are spamming. Additionally, this is an international group so it does not make sense to advertise local or regional services here. However, those who wish to do so are encouraged to post to alt.wedding.marketplace which was set up specifically for that purpose. The FAQ is very clear about the no-ads policy here and can readily be found in a Google search or by simply asking for it at anytime. All newcomers are encouraged to read the FAQ and to lurk for a while before posting to avoid missteps such as spamming. Hope this helps, Noe
